Disappeared Britain: A History of the English Language

The Radio 4 PM  programme has just had a feature about a collection of films from the British Council archives that have been made available online.

The films available at the moment are all from the 1940’s including this one on the History of the English Language from 1943:

It’s a fascinating document when thinking about attitudes towards language. What view does this present, not only of English, but of England itself, at a time when the country was at war?
